Online Armor Personal Firewall is a free-for-personal-use firewall developed by Tall Emu Pty Ltd that provides protection on a Microsoft Windows operating system from both inbound and outbound attacks. It currently is compatible only with Windows NT, 2000 and XP respectively, but the possibility of creating a version compatible with Vista is currently being investaged. Though there is a freeware version available, it has somewhat limited features compared to marketed versions, most notably it is lacking an auto-update feature and even a manual upgrade button, and thus needs to be checked and download product upgrades from its website.
In a recent independent firewall test [1] performed by matousec.com [2], it was the first firewall to receive a perfect score, surpassing more renowned firewalls such as ZoneAlarm and Kaspersky Internet Security, and is reportedly being pressed harder in future tests. A well known vulnerability profiling site and company, Secunia, has not found any vulnerabilities as of yet in the software[3], though Matousec reported a weakness 25th of March, 2008 [4], that has been repaired in the latest version.
Online Armor has gained both negative and positive feedback during its fairly short existence, with some users reporting serious compatibility problems with certain programs such as F-Secure and Ad Muncher, as noted in the product website, but also receiving praise for its free online support, and the swiftness at which problems are dealt with.
