[edit] History

One Year Waiting started out as an experimental project in 2000, called the Moops; and was created by band members Alex and Mario. Mario provided lyrics, melody to the songs, and the vocals while Alex supplied the instrumentals. Although their puberty stricken voices and young minds inhibited their ability to create powerful songs they were still able to produce entertaining tunes such as “Lemonaid”, “Koren Cups”, and “Peanuts”.
The Moops continued creating and experimenting with music through their middle school years, however, in 2003 Alex began to deviate from the duo. He began jam sessions with a newly found friend, John; and also stirred up musical sessions with an old friend Dan. It was not until almost a year later that Mario was introduced to John through Alex during one of their get-togethers. With Alex on drums, John on guitar, and Mario’s vocals, a musical chemistry quickly developed between the trio. Alex recognized this connection immediately and proposed the idea of a band, which really started the foundation of One Year waiting. Mario picked up bass guitar to add more depth to the new sound. Alex continued testing the musical waters with Dan until he was also brought into the group.
2004 gave birth to many firsts for the group, with four members, the guys started putting a little more time and thought into the music now. Alex would write instrumentals and record them so that Mario could write lyrics, and they all started working as one cohesive group to make the music into legitimate songs. Around their fifth song they decided it was time for them to name themselves as a band, they came up with names such as Green Light Go and the John Ryan Experience, however, nothing stuck with the group as much as John’s suggestion One Year Waiting.
After naming themselves Alex booked them their first show at the Image Bar. The day of the show was a cold and miserable, which made the chore of moving all the equipment from the car into the bar even more difficult. Once inside the smell of urine and cigarettes, as well as an older punk group, Dutch Guts, yelling at them, made their anxiety that much more. Yet, they were not discouraged and rocked through five of their own songs and a cover of Blink-182’s song “Pathetic”. They played several more shows their first year together, and spent most of their summer in a makeshift studio they created in Alex’s bedroom. Before the year was over they had recorded their first album, As Seen on TV, and had a large local fan base. During their shows they could see the audience wearing their t-shirts and singing along to all the songs.
Not long after Alex booked their first show he got in contact with music producer, Bryan Russell. They booked a meeting and showed off the few songs they had. Although Russell saw a strong foundation for the group there was still a lot to improve upon before he felt they would be ready for the music industry. They quickly got to work on new songs and improving their sound, however, as many teenagers do, they gave into the lure of mind altering substances and their musical progression came to a standstill.
Just as they were digging themselves from the rut they had fallen into, senior year was beginning and college applications began rolling in. The band had to question if they were ready to risk their lives for music. Around this same time there was strong public belief that a blooming romance was brewing between John, and fellow band member Alex’s, younger sister. However, conformation of this information has not been disclosed. For whatever reason though, the band came to an understanding that a break was necessary to allow one another to grow. The band will reunite in the summer of '08 after two semesters of college.[1]
