Talk:On-line and off-line

[edit] Definition
This article reeks of Wikitionary. --Davidstrauss 22:01, 12 May 2006 (UTC)
"(Redirected from Offline browsing)" which was followed from web browser; yet not a single link to an off-line web broswer is on the page! 74.92.215.38 21:50, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
This page is far too advanced, it needs to start with a more simple defintion of online and offline. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.108.141.101 (talk • contribs)
- There's a link to Wiktionary's definitions of offline and online at the very top. Pan Dan 21:52, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

- A simple link isn't enough. If we want this article to read like an standard encyclopedia article, it should start with a terse, basic description of the general meaning. To quote from the lead section of Wikipedia:Lead section:
- The lead should be capable of standing alone as a concise overview of the article, establishing context, summarizing the most important points, explaining why the subject is interesting or notable, and briefly describing its notable controversies, if there are any.
- I'd do it myself, but I don't like revising something so essential unless I'm willing and able to put in the time to debate the changes, and I'm backlogged at the moment. But if no one else tackles it, I'm sure I can get to it eventually. ~ Jeff Q (talk) 01:51, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Spelling
I propose this article be moved to "Online and Offline" using the FAR more common unhyphenated forms. Both are proper[1][2] and "online" Googles 6,280,000,000 hits vs. 272,000,000 for "on-line" -- "online" is more commonly used by a factor of 23! Use of the hyphenated forms is mainly an anal preference of certain stuffy editors who are well behind the times. Rep07 (talk) 17:29, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
- I agree. Both are technically correct, so we should probably use the more common one. -- FatalError (t|c) 23:27, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
