Omnibus (broadcast)

An Omnibus in broadcasting, (sometimes called an omnibus edition) is a compilation of daily episodes that is usually broadcast during the following weekend. Such programmes that are or have been transmitted in omnibus format in Britain include:
Television:
- Emmerdale
- Coronation Street
- Eastenders
- Doctor Who (in the 1970's & 80s)
- Hollyoaks
- Family Affairs (until 2002)
- Brookside (until end: 2003)
- Home and Away
- Neighbours (UKTV Gold airings until 2001 and on FIVE and FIVER from 2008)
Radio:
Omnibus is also the name of a software package used for television station control and automation. Brookside was the first soap to have an Omnibus edition. The first omnibus edition for Brookside was estabilished in 1991 and continued until the series ended in 2003. EastEnders followed having an omnibus in 1994 and continuing to date.
