Omallur

Omallur is a village about 4 km south of the district headquarters Pathanamthitta. Omallur is famous for Vayal vanibham which is an annual cattle fair held in the month of Meenam (Malayalam Year). People from both within and outside the State participate in the fair. There are many historically important places of worship in Omallur. The Rektha Kanda Swamy Temple is a grand temple situated in Omallur and is famous for the annual festival (Utsavam).
The St Thomas Orthodox Valiya Palli is also another major place of worship for christians which is a very old church. Manjanikkara Dayara is famous for its pilgrimage importance. Every year thousands of pilgrims come by foot to the tomb of Holy Patriach Ignatius Elias III at Manjanikkara.
St. Stephen's Jacobite Church, St. Thomas Malankara Catholic Church, Puthenpeedika and St. Peter's Malankara Catholic Church, Cheakkanal are some other important places worship at Omallur.
H.G Yuhanon Mor Militos the Metropolitan of Kollam and Thumpamon Dioceses of Syrian Othodox Church is a native of Omallur.
Famous literary personalities such as Sri. Gopi Kottooreth, Rev. Fr. Thomas Kuzhinapurath of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church hail from Omallur.
Famous film actors Sri Prathapachandran and Sri Captain Raju are also from Omallur.
Aryabharati High School is one of the important schools in omallur.
Omallur is place of peace and harmony. Temple Utsavam and Church feasts (Palliperunal) are celebarated as village festivals.
