The Olympia Brewery brewhouse is at the base of the Tumwater Falls in Tumwater, Washington. With the original buildings constructed in 1896 and reconstructed in 1906, the buildings have long served as a landmark for local residents, as well as drivers along Interstate 5.[1] A newer brewery was built in 1934, uphill from the original brewhouse. The modern brewery was closed in 2003. After a major real estate deal with a bottled water company fell through in 2007 the modern brewery is for sale again.[2] After condemning previous owners' water rights in 2006, in April 2008 the cities of Lacey, Olympia and Tumwater have taken possession of water rights once held by the former Olympia Brewing Company.[3] The orginal brewhouse is part of the Tumwater Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
