Ollur

Ollur is a major suburban area in the Thrissur City of Kerala state, south India. It is situated about 5km away from Swaraj Round on National Highway 47 towards Ernakulam. Ollur used to be a small town of Thrissur district until recently. Now, this geographical area is part of Thrissur Corporation. It is situated between Kuriachira and Thalore on the national highway. However, a specific identity for this geographical region is still there due to the rural setting of this region and it's important religious institutions.

Ollur is a multi-religion centre. Ollur is a Christian dominated area. The St.Antony's church [1] is famous for its festival of Arch Angel St.Raphael which is celebrated on the 24th October every year.People from distant places as far from Tamilnadu Muvattupuzha, Kottayam areas also comes here for the festival. The church, as all old places of worship in Kerala, is situated on top of a hillock and there are numerous ring roads around this typically Kerala Architecture style Devalaya, replete with woodwork, murals and colourful tiles.The museum-like old Tharavad House of Chev. Prof. George Menachery, the well known historical and archaeological researcher attracts many scholars from here and abroad.The tomb of Rev. Mother Evuprasia, the famous pilgrim centre is at St. Mary's convent Ollur. The edakkunni Durga devi temple built by the great sage Parasurama is a close to ollur center. The annual pooram festival and Pancharimelam are well known.The famous business house Hykon had its starting from Ollur.
This place has a lot of clay tile and wood packing case manufacturing industries.This town has the potential to stand itself as a town. Ollur is considered as one of the major towns in Thrissur district.The Famous tile factory Sree Shanmugha tile works had its starting from Ollur (Avinissery).
Thaikkattu Mooss, a legend in its own, is engaged in the practice of Ayurveda, the science of life, mastered by ancient Indian saints. Vaidyaratnam, a prestigious title was conferred on Ashtavaidyan Narayanan Mooss in the year 1924 by the then Viceroy of British India, Lord Reading. Ashtavaidyan Neelakandhan Mooss, son of Ashtavaidyan Narayanan Mooss, established Vaidyaratnam Oushadhasala in 1941 with the aim of popularising the amazing healing effect of Ayurveda.
Ollur is well connected by road,rail and even water.
