The O. Max Gardner Building in Chapel Hill and Gardner Hall at North Carolina State in Raleigh are also named in honor of Gardner. During his term, he passed the legislation that created the Greater Universitiy of North Carolina Educational System and is know as of the "father" of the Consoloidated University.
