Olive Dickason

Olive Dickason is a Canadian historian. Prior to earning her PhD, Dickason was a writer for the Montreal Gazette and the Globe and Mail newspapers. She is the author of Canada's First Nations, among other books. She holds the Order of Canada and was the recipient of the Aboriginal Achievement Award in 1996.
Dickason filed suit against the University of Alberta, claiming its mandatory retirement policy was a violation of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Dickason won her case in the lower courts but lost in a 5-4 split at the Supreme Court of Canada.
