Olga de Meyer
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Olga de Meyer (1871-1930), formerly Olga Caracciolo, whose godfather was Edward VII, was a wealthy British socialite who, in 1899, married Adolf de Meyer, a prominent man who later became known for his elegant photographic portraits. She had previously been married to Marino Brancaccio. Her marriage to Adolf de Meyer was a marriage of convenience more than love. Adolf was homosexual, and Olga was bisexual.
Edward VII's relation to Olga is disputed. There are some that have claimed he was, in truth, her father, having had an affair with her mother. However, there are few facts to support that claim, and at most he laid claim to being her "godfather". Her association with Edward VII greatly aided in her husbands success, and eventually led to her husband being made baron by Frederick Augustus III of Saxony, at the request of Edward VII. For a time Olga was involved in an affair with wealthy Winnaretta Singer, heiress to the Singer sewing machine fortune. The affair began in 1901, and ended in 1905, when the latter began an affair with artist Romaine Brooks.
