[edit] Merge with Chevrolet Lumina APV and Chevrolet Venture
This is a near idential corporate cousin of the Chevrolet Lumina APV and the Chevrolet Venture. Much of this article is a near clone of the Chevrolet Lumina APV article and should be merged with it. [edit] Actually, completely different
Actually, they are completely different vehicles. For example, for the Chevrolet Venture and Chevrolet Uplander- How is a 3.4-litre V6 that has 185 horsepower at 5,200 rpm similiar to a brand new, redesigned, and remastered 3.9-litre V6 that has 240 horsepower at 6,000 rpm?? Plus, space is still bigger, and almost all of the things are different. Same goes for the Chevrolet Lumina APV and Chevrolet Venture.
[edit] 3.1L engine problem
In the early 90's, there is a problem with many of the GM 3.1L engines where the camshaft timing sprocket bolts weren't torqued enough and they'll work loose. The result is a banging noise as the sprocket comes loose and eventually a scraping and squeaking sound as the bolt heads hit the inside of the timing cover. The books I have specify a mere 15 inch-pounds torque on those bolts! 15 FOOT-pounds is more like what the torque should be. I had this happen in a 1991 Oldsmobile Silhouette van and I've seen the same problem in others of those plastic vans as well as in some GM cars of the same years. Far as I know, GM has never issued a recall for the under-torqued cam sprocket bolts.

GM's idea to poduce a lighter weight minivan with the plastic panels glued and riveted to a steel substructure didn't pan out. The 1991 Oldsmobile version weighs nearly exactly the same as a 1991 Cadillac DeVille.
