Can you name a partisan for the minority view of the origins as city church usage? It's nice that you could attach prominent musicologists to the other opinion, and it would help describe the controversy to do so for the other side. Rigadoun 15:50, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Byzantine filiation?
Hello,
I recently discovered Old Roman chant and was startled by its similarity with Byzantine chant. For now, I have found only 2 sources:
- the St Marcel Mass chanted by Marcel Peres' ensemble (CD by Harmonia Mundi)
- http://www.romancatholicism.org/chant/old-roman-byzantine-chant.htm
I am not a specialist, but it's intriguing that no hint is given in this article concerning the source of this similarity. The text on "romancatholicism.org" gives some hints, but I don't know if the site is serious enough (I found it by googling for "old roman chant", and I was not able to find who owns the site).
