[edit] Plot

Peggy finds herself rivals with another substitute teacher, Peggy Donovan, who has just returned from a three-year sabbatical during which time she earned her Master's degree.

When Bobby is given a failing grade on an essay by Ms. Donovan and forced to rewrite it, Peggy blames Donovan's jealousy of Peggy being assigned a premium parking space.

Bobby finally finds inspiration for a topic when Bill displays an oversized flag, he rescued from being incinerated by promising to properly display it.

Though he has a topic, he has difficulty writing the essay, and manages to get Peggy to write it for him.

When the essay receives an A, and Bobby takes full credit for writing the essay, Peggy becomes jealous and Bobby's classmates want him to write their essays.

Bobby supplies his classmates with his mother's Musing columns (the column had recently become discontinued). This leads Donovan to confront Peggy who then confronts Bobby who inadvertently reveals that Peggy wrote his essay.

Donovan threatens the two with going to Principal Moss with a plagiarism complaint unless the two apologize during an assembly.

Peggy devises a plan to save face by giving a salute to the flag, complete with Bill's oversize flag and fireworks. However, the flag becomes damaged beyond repair and has to be incinerated.

At the assembly Bobby admits that Peggy wrote his essay and many others, but then launches into an eloquent speech about finally appreciating the flag when he saw a grown man crying when one was destroyed, thus foiling Donovan's plan to exact revenge from Peggy for getting her parking place (which is revealed to be her motivation).

[edit] Notes

  • Even though Peggy's iMac arrived the day after Christmas according to the previous episode ("Hillennium"), Peggy is still using a Kaypro. That is because this episode was produced before Hillennium.
