Okabayashi Shoken
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Okabayashi Shoken was a retainer beneath the clan of Aki throughout the latter Sengoku Period of Feudal Japan. As Shoken initially began his service under the Aki clan that occupated the western part of Tosa Province, he supported their respective cause with moderate ability; but at this same time a certain Chosokabe Motochika bidded for power over the entire province after initially throwing his former master from his holdings, thus greatly encouraging Shoken to discard his relations with the relatively weak clan of Aki and favor the Chosokabe. And thus, as his aspirations would have it, Shoken--along with his friend, Ogawa Shinzaemon--began secretly communicating with Motochika throughout a large span of time, initially supporting the former in 1569 as the Aki were entirely desolated. The future of Shoken following this period remains unknown, but it can be easily surmised that he was able to support Motochika throughout many years that followed this instance, more than likely being killed in a variable battle experienced prior to the end of the 1590s.
