Oi Yukiyoshi

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Oi Yukiyoshi (大井行吉?  ? - ?) was a retainer beneath the clan of Takeda throughout the latter Sengoku Period of Feudal Japan. Son to former Takeda retainer Oi Yukiyori, Yukiyoshi inherited the will of his father, initially holding Iwao castle of Shinano Province as his base of power and respective domain. Supporting Takeda Shingen as a retainer of general note throughout the time period at which he enlisted under the Takeda, Yukiyoshi trained his military with consistent drilling, thus gaining the regard of the majority of Shinano's outer defenses that surrounded Iwao castle. As the years passed on with continued prowess beneath his respective flag, Yukiyoshi confronted the final and most dreadest of conflicts --one that forced him into a position to display a heavy level of conviction: the Oda/Tokugawa Invasion of Kai. This conflict having taken place in 1582, and with Takeda Katsuyori and his entire clan nearly ousted from existence, Yukiyoshi aligned his forces outside of Iwao, clashing with the Tokugawa's advance guards with such incredible strength and discipline that he was considered the only ultimate defense that Shinano possessed against their opposition. Despite such prowess, Yukiyoshi was eventually overwhelmed, where he excused himself from potential service beneath the Tokugawa, retiring into his respective province and dieing off at a later time within the future.
