Ohev Sholom Talmud Torah

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ohev Sholom Talmud Torah is the oldest Orthodox Jewish synagogue in Washington, D.C. in the United States. It is located in the neighborhood of Shepherd Park. The synagogue was formed from the merger of two earlier synagogues, Ohev Sholom and Talmud Torah.

The entertainer Al Jolson attended Talmud Torah as a youth; in those early days services were held in local businesses, as well as family members' homes.

The synagogue is also known by its copyrighted name, "The National Synagogue."
