[edit] Seriously out-of-date

This page needs a serious rewrite. It is based almost entirely on the 1911 Encyclopaedia Britannica which is, surprise, surprise, OUT OF DATE!. Octroi was abolished in France in 1948, as the linked French Wikipedia article makes clear (see fr:Octroi). It is also concerned almost entirely with the situation in France and ignores other countries except in passing. I will make a start on updating.... Emeraude 12:59, 6 March 2007 (UTC)
