From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Obata Toramori (小畠虎盛? 1491 - July 14, 1561) was a retainer of the Takeda clan throughout the latter Sengoku Period of Feudal Japan.
Toramori acted as one of the primary supporters of Takeda Nobutora when he enlisted himself with the Takeda forces; and after many years of mutual service, he would be allowed the free use of 'tora' in his respective name.
Following the death of Nobutora and the succession of his son, Shingen, Toramori supported the latter as one of the Takeda's Twenty-Four Generals, and remained as a general subordinate to senior retainer Baba Nobufusa, supporting the latter throughout many battles.
[edit] Battles
Toramori was highly esteemed as a man of capability after his performance in many battles, suffering about 40 battle wounds. He was an Ashigaru Captain and commanded 15 cavalry and 75 ashigaru soldiers.
[edit] Death
Following the Fifth Battle of Kawanakajima in 1561, Toramori returned to his Kaizu castle; but due to a severe illness he died in June of that year. He was regarded by the Takeda as a man of high regard and respect.
