Oakley Green is a village in Berkshire, England. Its name is derived from "Oak Clearing," and a green used by farmers from the nearby parish of Bray.
[edit] History
The area is notable as the purported site of the battle of Acleah, in 851 AD, between Aethelwulf and the Danes, resulting in a victory for Aethelwulf. It grew as a small village linking the route between Windsor and Reading, serving as a stop for packhorse traders.
[edit] Manor Houses
There are a number of monar houses in the area, the largest being New Lodge, built in 1857 for Jean Sylvain Van De Weyer, a Belgian Minister. Other notable houses include Kimber's Farm and Bishop's Farm.
