[edit] Symbolism
The official symbol of the movement stands three stars representing Paraná, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul.[citation needed]
[edit] History
The movement arose during officially Segundo Congresso Separatista celebrated on 18th and 19th July 1992 in Laguna, Santa Catarina, founded by Adílcio Cadorin, former mayor of the city.
[edit] Racism allegations
The movement is constantly accused of racism since most of the integrands are descendants of Germans and Italians (see Italian diaspora) and tend to repeal the influence of Brazilian mainstream culture into them. Other accusations include xenophobia (mainly against Northeast immigrants, the "Nordestinos"), Fascism, Neo-Nazism and McCarthyism. Anyway, the leaders of the movement strongly reject those assertions, especially about being Nazis.
