Hi there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. On many keyboards, the tilde is entered by holding the Shift key, and pressing the key with the tilde pictured. You may also click on the signature button
located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you! --SineBot (talk) 20:20, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Discussion on Talk:Miley Cyrus
Please be a bit more careful how you phrase your comments in discussions. You have good points and I appreciate your inputs and passion about the subject but some of the comments could be seen as assuming bad faith on the inputs from other editors and could therefore blunt the effectives of your arguments. --NrDg 21:11, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
(I moved your comments on my page back here to keep conversation in one place. I have your page on watch and will see any replies --NrDg 22:15, 27 January 2008 (UTC))
- Didn't think I said anything in approbiate. GPrince expressed his personal view therefore I express my personal view. I felt his comments are hostile there I replied to his own tone. —Preceding unsigned comment added by O1001010 (talk • contribs) 21:26, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

- The feeling that his comments were hostile is the point. Even if they were it is best to pretend they weren't when responding. This tends to cool things down and is more effective in the long term in getting your point across. --NrDg 22:15, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

- OK, understood. Wikipedia is suppose to be a neutral place supported by facts. Yet so many areas are biased. This is one topic where I think should be address little by little. I think there should be a Christian movement that addrress these issues and be more community active.

- Neutrality is the goal. Problem is everyone thinks they are neutral and impartial and can't see their own biases - and everyone has them as well. Best we can do here on wiki is try to get it right by following procedures and developing consensus. I've had to accept things I didn't like as I couldn't get people to agree. Just have to keep trying, but carefully. The issues of religion and ethnicity are hot topics in general with a lot of very firmly held positions. People get upset easily. There is a Christian movement that tries to address issues like this. They have not been effective as they have been marginalized. Best not to push that angle. Best is to keep in mind what is important to you and try your best but base your reasoning on the foundation of Wiki's culture and environment. Understand you will not alway get what you want. --NrDg 23:00, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

- I don't think I'll be able to help you much on this. Suggest you go over the links in the yellow box at the top of this page before starting an article. Please remember a basic wiki policy of neutral point of view WP:NPOV and be willing to work with others who may have a different perspective than you. If you come across as pushing a point of view people will strongly object. Good luck. --NrDg 01:05, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

- I just went thru the entire Talk:Miley Cyrus#Christian section and still dont get it as to why i was seen as a anti-christian by you. you said that i made some "offensive statements" about christianity....i dont get it...but if i came across as some anti-christian or some racist fellow then i just want to make it clear that i am neither of them. I never objected to adding of "American christian" categories. The only thing i objected to was the "mention of her religion in the main article" until it affects her in her career or personal life. I justify the use of religion in the main article IF it has influenced the person concerned in a major way. I also gave examples of Madonna,George Bush, Barack Obama, Mahatma Gandhi, George Bush, Mother Teresa,Dalai Lama etc where the mention of their religion is justified because "their belief in their religion and their religious identities shaped their career and ideologies". Miley is too young and her religion has not played a major role yet in her life as compared to famous people mentioned in the prev. sentences. The examples i have given are of people who belong to different faiths, race, religion and nationalities. I deliberately chose these examples so that i'm not branded anti-something again. For the time being i would abide by consensus formed on the talk page which is the way to go on wikipedia. I suggest that u go thru the articles of the people i mentioned above to get an idea of the context in which their religion is mentioned in the article. Once again i wanna clarify that i am not a racist or an anti christian fellow. If i caused any hurt to you then i apologize for it. Gprince007 (talk) 15:52, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

- Because as of right now in the wikipedia articles, these things matter and opposing your viewing. It is a fact that religion and heritage factors are listed in every one of non Christian person, even in some case that the person explicitly mentioned he or she is not affiliated with that religion, but just born to it, as NrDg points out. There is no need to apologize for anything, as I have repeatly mentioned that I am not Christian. I just want every article to be written in the same format and flavor. Miley is considered to be a major influential icon. If you want to start a trend of so quote: "mention of her religion in the main article" until it affects her in her career or personal life" " then start with some minor article first and when you achieve your trend into a new wikipedia standard, then come back and change Miley's article.
