NYGE

The National Youth Guitar Ensemble, or NYGE, is a musical ensemble comprising young United Kingdom guitarists from the ages of 13 to 18. Ever since starting in 2000, its numbers have grown, and in Easter of 2006, 22 teens took part, playing pieces by Leo Brouwer, Peter Warlock, Heitor Villa-Lobos and Stephen Dodgson at Bolivar Hall in the Venezuelan Embassy, London.

On Easter 2007, the Eden Stell Guitar Duo joined the 27 members of NYGE and performed pieces by Alfonso Montes, Stephen Dodgson, and Andrew York, along with Gerald Garcia's "Lorca Concerto" for two Guitars and Guitar Orchestra. NYGE is also planning to perform at the World Youth Guitar Festival in Winchester in August 2007. NYGE has been directed for many years by Gerald Garcia and was previously directed by guitarist Chris Susans, who will be leaving management in 2007. NYGE was set up by the European Guitar Teachers Association (EGTA) to enable ensemble training for young musicians and provided human and financial resources. NYGE recorded a CD in August 2007.
