Nutricosmetics

Nutricosmetics (also known as “skingestibles”) is the name for a category of consumer products conveying health benefits related to the skin. These products are taken orally, and thus considered a counterpart to cosmeceuticals (which are used topically). As more clinical research becomes available, nutricosmetics are becoming a viable long-term alternative to cosmetic surgery.

The growing ubiquity of functional foods and beverages on store shelves is an example of this trend.[1] A recent study has estimated double-digit growth through 2011 for an industry already worth over $1 billion.[2]
