InterLnk stuff needs to go in a separate article.

There has been a vote for deletion of the InterLnk page some time ago. It is now integrated in the MS-DOS commands. It would be better to have a separate InterLnk page again which is referencing to both this null modem page, and the LapLink cable page, because InterLnk can be used with both cable types. This would however break the current structure of the MS-DOS commands page. Any suggestions? --82.92.58.162 14:21, 9 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I just added LapLink cable to the InterLnk description, which is good enough until someone wants to write a comprehensive InterLnk article (e.g., describing the protocol, how to use the program, etc.). When this happens, the brief description on the MS-DOS commands page can be augmented with a link to the more detailed page. Aren't DCE and DTE reversed on this page? On the RS-232, DCE, and DTE pages they seem to be described the other way around. The terms make more sense the other way around as well.

It seems to me that the paragraph discussing one possible use of a Null Modem cable is not particularly helpful for defining what the cable is. Even if a specific example was helpful, an esoteric, jargon-filled discussion such as this is hardly enlightening, even for the technically inclined. This: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Nullmodem.png is a really, really bad way to wire up a null modem cable, as it completely defeats RTS/CTS flow control. The wiring of the carrier detect line and ring indicators are pretty bizarre, and the numbers allocated to the pins aren't mentioned elsewhere in the page. The examples here: http://www.lammertbies.nl/comm/info/RS-232_null_modem.html are much more informative.
