Nuevo Alto

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Nuevo Alto is a Chacoan Anasazi great house and notable archaeological site located in Chaco Canyon, a canyon in the U.S. state of New Mexico. It was built on the north mesa near Pueblo Alto, and was founded in the late 1100s, a time when the Chacoan population was declining in the canyon; it was part of a new wave, beginning in the 1080s, of great houses that were more compact and had different architecture than previous complexes.[1] None of the ancient Chacoan roads leads to Nuevo Alto.[2]
