Nuclear magneton

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The nuclear magneton (symbol \mu_\mathrm{N}\!), is a physical constant of magnetic moment, defined by:

\mu_\mathrm{N} = {{e \hbar} \over {2 m_\mathrm{p}}}

where:

e\! is the elementary charge,
\hbar is the reduced Planck's constant,
m_\mathrm{p}\! is the proton rest mass

In the SI system of units its value is approximately:

\mu_\mathrm{N}\! = 5.050 783 24(13) × 10-27 J·T-1
