Hi there. Welcome to Wikipedia. I saw your suggestion on the McGuinty article and I see the trouble you've had with the Tory one so I thought that I'd leave you a friendly note.
I think that what you have is something that might be worth saying. I'm sure that there's an argument in there. The problem is that Wikipedia isn't really the place for an argument or opinion, even a good one. The reason is that who is to say what is a good opinion or a bad one. So we try our best to stick with the cold hard facts and let them speak for themselves. It doesn't always work perfectly but that is the ideal.
It would probably be a good idea for you to look around as you continue editing. WP:FIVE is a good place to start. The policies WP:NPOV and WP:NOR are important and also relevant here. You should also be aware of WP:3RR because I see that you've reverted one article a few times. WP:EW is related to that. It is always a good idea to discuss problems on the talk pages as I see you have done with those two articles.
If you have any questions or need any help you can always leave me a message on my talk page or ask most other editors who are happy to help. And I see that you've found editor assistance on your own so I'm sure that you'll have no trouble navigating around. Cheers. —Preceding unsigned comment added by JGGardiner (talk • contribs) 08:26, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
- It would be hard to rewrite what you had because the general problem with it is that you were passing judgement on McGuinty. We can't really do that. It isn't that you are wrong per se. But someone else could have an opinion that McGuinty is right and we don't sit and decide which view of McGuinty is correct. That's just not what Wikipedia is. For our purposes, it doesn't really matter if McGuinty is right or wrong.
- You do have some facts in there but they don't necessarily lead to your conclusion. The HRC thing that you've got is really just a dismissed complaint. They were asking for Catholic funding to be removed (3.3) and the HRC found their complaint inadmissable anyway (7).
There is some room, I think, for Tory's opinion. The section on the schools issue should probably say that Tory proposed the changes and advanced whatever arguments. It should also not McGuinty's and then really focus on the fallout from it all.
- I certainly welcome your contributions to the article. But what you've proposed on the talk page is really an opinion. It is good that is shows you have a brain but it isn't the kind of thing that we can include here. --JGGardiner 16:24, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
[edit] NPOV
Hi Ntb613. I got your message about John Tory. I have to agree with the Wikipedians above. You're obviously a smart person with passionate opinions. But unreferenced opinions don't belong on an Encyclopedia (see Neutral Point of View). I hope this is helpful, and welcome your future contributions to Wikipedia!
