Notepadding

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Notepadding refers to a particular situation when having a conversation via Instant messaging.

If one of the conversation participants has entered text, such that the IM client indicates that text has been entered, but typing has stopped (indicated by an orange keyboard in the upper right corner in GAIM or a text message saying "User has entered text" in Trillian), it can be assumed that the sender is trying to figure out how to phrase what they are typing by using a text editor (such as Notepad) to write and rewrite the text. Once the contents of the message have been sufficiently revised, the message is cut and pasted into the IM client and the conversation continues.
