Norm Silverstein has served as President & CEO of WXXI Public Broadcasting Council in Rochester since December 1995. Under his leadership, the station has been recognized nationally and locally for service to the community and for its commitment to education. WXXI recently completed the most successful capital campaign in its 40-year history and is now one of the most advanced digital facilities in New York State. WXXI programs five television channels, operates four radio stations and Reachout Radio, a reading service for the visually impaired, and has an award-winning on-line presence. The station provides a free, web-based Video On-Demand service that enhances classroom learning throughout the region.

Norm has built strong partnerships with many cultural and educational institutions in the region served by his station. Collaborations between WXXI and the University of Rochester, George Eastman House, Rochester Institute of Technology, Alfred University and The Rochester Museum & Science Center, to name just a few, have resulted in programs broadcast across the nation, sharing with the world some of Rochester's best treasures. As Chair of the New York public television association, Norm works with his colleagues throughout the state to use the capacity of public broadcasting for education, public service, community development and Homeland Security. He also represents public broadcasting as a Director of the New York State Broadcasters Association (NYSBA). He is a founding member of the Joint Licensee Affinity Group and works to promote partnerships between public radio and public television.
