Talk:Northern Michigan University
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
June 19, 2007 Updated laptop program details -- dialup lines will be discontinued as of July 1, 2007. Removed two "distinguished alumni" whose identity couldn't be independently verified. All other distinguished alumni have been verified by NMU's Alumni Association as being NMU graduates. AnneStark 13:46, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
On December 6th, the following text was inserted by a anon user who has been vandalizing other articles. The information should be checked:
+ + Tom Izzo, Head Basketball Coach, Michigan State University + + Lloyd Carr, Head Football Coach, University of Michigan + + Jerry Glanville, Former Head Coach of the Houston Oilers and Atlanta Falcons; current defensive coordinator, University of Hawaii

I was able to verify Izzo and Carr via Wikipedia articles and references, but not Glanville. Oddly, Steve Mariucci does not appear to have gone to NMU! More research is needed. Simesa 19:52, 6 December 2005 (UTC)
It does not appear Mooch went to NMU? Where did you get that? Of course he went to NMU. I am an NMU alum and that is one of our few claim to fames. Steve Mariucci led the Wildcats to a Division II Championship his sophomore year and was an All-American in '76 and '77. He was roommates with Tom Izzo for crying out loud. He is in the NMU hall of fame as well as the U.P. hall of fame. This is mostly common knowledge to any informed NMU student, but info was verified at the Detroit Lions Web site.
Both Glanville and Mariucchi are mentioned on the NMU Sports Hall of Fame website. [1]

[edit] Fixing another vandilized change
On May 24, 2006, I removed a reference to a fictional distinguished alumnus.
It appears that the page has been reverted to a pervious version by an on-campus IP. I have, in turn, reverted. The Wiki and NMU's page in particular was just mentioned in a media class on campus. This might spark some vandalism on or around 9/11/2006. Johns996 19:43, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Alumni - Distinguished and Simply Enthusiastic
I have a suggestion for the NMU entry on alumni. Clearly, Howard Schultz, Mooch and Izzo are in a different league of "Distinguished" than are Mr. Patrick, Ms. Own, Mr. Jensen, Mr. Stein, Mr. Streeting and Mr. Edmonds -- as personable and accomplished these alumni may be.
And they are all alumni -- I checked with the NMU Alumni Association, so there is no true vandalism giong on. But I do think we should have some clarification.
How about adding a "Recent Alunmi" section to the NMU entry? We are tickled that we have recent grads who want the world to know what they're achieving after graduation from Northern. If there are no objections in the next few days, we will revise the NMU entry to include a Recent Alumni section along with a more complete profile of Northern, along with more pictures. There was a Finnish guy that spoke at the 2006 Spring Graduation. He was the head of what has become one of the largest food distribution services for the u.p., wisconson (ect.). Unfortuanatly, that's I don't know his name or the company. If anybody knows more about this person, he would qualify as a distinguished alumni. If anybody has more information available, it would be helpful. Otherwise, I will try and find more information. Bradley Elenbaas
What about Dllas Drake, i tried to add it, but it was taken down, and i got a nasty message, he is an NHL player who played for northern when we won the NCAA Championship, he played for the redwings, the jets, the coyotes and now the blues, how is he not a distinguished alumn —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.46.0.13 (talk • contribs) 01 Aug 2006
- A simple examination of your recent change history, including that one, will lead one to conclude that your contributions were vandalism. The "nasty messages" are standard vandal warnings. Please feel free to return to contribute valid information without the accompanying vandalism. Archer3 13:07, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
On the 5th of May, 2007, 67.190.1.189 added "Erich Smith" as a notable alumni. A quick google search found nothing obvious making this person notable, if not fictional. Can anyone verify who this is, or should it be reverted? Sarten-X 03:03, 13 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Campus - not rural
NMU's campus is in the middle of the city of Marquette. There's nothing rural about it.
- I'm from Marquette, it may be a city, but it is rural. --Kyle van der Meer 03:51, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
