The 1977-78 Northern Premier League season was the 10th in the history of the Northern Premier League, a football competition in England.

[edit] Promotion and relegation

In the tenth season of the Northern Premier League 2nd placed Wigan Athletic applied for election to the Football League and succeeded, joining Football League Division Four; they replaced Southport, who swapped leagues with them. No sides were relegated, but Great Harwood left the League at the end of the season.
