North Star Academy Charter School of Newark is a charter school located in Newark, New Jersey. The school educates about 400 students in grades 5 to 12.
It was mentioned many times in newspapers and magazines all throughout the tri-state area. There are two campuses, one in Woodside, the other in downtown Newark. The children in this school are respectful, safe, and very discipline. They show core values (respect, caring, courage, responsibility). The children are very intent on doing their best. The teachers are dedicated, and they are the best of the best. The principal of the North campus is strict, but fair. They use something called a paycheck system, and when children are showing the core values (mentioned above), they earn "dollars," but if they do not, then they get them taken away.
In 2000, New Jersey Governor Christine Todd Whitman and then-Texas Governor George W. Bush toured the school, hailing it as an example of reform.[3]
In 2008, North Star Academy was awarded a Bronze Medal in the U.S. News/SchoolMatters ranking of Best High Schools.[4]
