North Iwo Jima (Japanese: 北硫黄島 officially Kita-iōtō, also frequently Kita-iōjima: “north sulfur island”) is the northernmost island of the Volcano Islands group of the Ogasawara Islands, 80 km north of Iwo Jima. It is 1170 km south of Tokyo, 207 km SSW of Chichijima. Its area is 5.57km², shore length, 8.0km, and highest point 792m called Sakagigamine (榊ヶ峰) with another peak at Shimizu (清水峰, 665m). It is administered as Ogasawara Village of Tokyo and is unpopulated. Its Japanese name was changed on June 18, 2007 to Kita-iōtō.
