Nortel Baystack

Baystack is the brand name of a family of Ethernet switching products manufactured by Nortel Networks. The Nortel Baystack product line has since been replaced by newer Ethernet Routing Switch (ERS) family.

Features and performance vary by model but in general the family supports:

  • Ethernet switching capable of throughput of up to 3 million packets per second
  • Ethernet Interfaces 10/100Base-TX ports, 100/1000Base-FX ports
  • Port Based VLANs
  • Protocol Based VLANs
  • RMON (Remote Monitoring) for Statistics, History, Alarms, Events
  • MultiLink Trunking (switch to switch or switch to server)
  • Port Mirroring
  • IGMP Snooping
  • VLAN Tagging (802.1q)
  • Traffic Prioritization (802.1p)
  • Stacking via redundant cascade cabling. This allows up to eight switches to be managed as one. (Model 450 only)
  • Multiple language support

[edit] Management

The Baystack switches are managed via telnet or direct console cable. The management interface is menu driven allowing for simple configuration. Higher end models are also configurable using Nortel’s Optivity Network Management System.
