Norman North High School is a public, co-educational secondary school in Norman, Oklahoma. It was established on August 21, 1997, on the grounds of what had been Longfellow Middle School since 1973.

[edit] Name and Origin
Norman North High School was formerly named Norman High School North. This changed in 2004 when it was decided that Norman North High School was more practical, and was now fully understood that Norman did indeed operate two separate high schools.
[edit] Awards and Excellence
Norman North High School has displayed outstanding excellence in Fine Arts winning top state and national awards and rankings.
The Marching Band and the Wind Ensemble (an elite audition-based band) were created in 2004 and have since won numerous awards at competition, including the OSSAA State Sweepstakes award in 2005 which only three other bands claimed in that year.
The Norman North Orchestras have won eleven OSSAA State Sweepstakes awards since their creation in 1997.
The choirs at Norman North are well know around the state and nation for their outstanding quality. Under the direction of Tony Gonzales, the Norman North choirs have been to the National Choral Director's Association Conference three times, have won 10 State Sweepstakes, and numerous National Competition awards. Director Tony Gonzales also won the National Arts Teacher Award in 2006 for his outstanding efforts.
The National Forensic League chapter at Norman North is one of the strongest in the nation. In its 8 years of competition, the chapter has consistently sent students to the local tournament, won numerous contest sweepstakes awards, and has been Regional and Local Champion the last two years and is home to 2007's NFL 8th in the nation in LD (Lincoln Douglas) debate. The Norman North Timberwolves football team has become more and more successful in recent years. Guided by coach Lance Manning, the Timberwolves finished the 2007 season with a 9-3 record winning District 6A-1 and also reached the second round of the Class 6A State Playoffs.[1] In 2006 the Timberwolves went 6-6, defeating crosstown rival Norman High for the first time in school history, and made the second round of the class 6A State Playoffs. Aside from althletic excelence, the Timberwolves were named the 2006 All State Academic Team. The Norman North soccer team is one of the most legendary and illustrious programs in the nation. In the teams short history they have won two state championships and appeared in 9 state semi-final games. 30 of the T-Wolves soccer players have been named to the All-State team. North soccer alumni have gone on to do such things as winning the Division 1 National Championship (Russ Coleman - Wake Forest 2007), playing in an Olympic Qualifier (Dominic Cervi - 2008) and being drafted in the first round of the MLS Draft (Dominic Cervi - Chicago Fire 2008)

Vicky Lynn Lewallen, a science teacher and former girls' basketball coach, was accused of being in an inappropriate relationship with a female student in February 2007.[2] Lewallen was charged with two counts of forcible sodomy and two counts of rape in June 2007.[3] These charges are currently pending, with a preliminary hearing set for 2007-10-16. [2]
