Nonsul (論述,writing test), which is regarded as one of the test formats of college entrance exam in Korea, basically means 'writing logically'- to read the given articles and write the answer to the questions. Additionally, it also includes some similar oral test format called 'Gusul(口述,oral test)' which needs logical and immediate interaction.
Nonsul is recently positioned as one of three main factors of entrance exam including 'Haksaenbu(學生簿,GPA)' and 'Sunung(受能,Korean SAT)' but it is only adopted in 20 high-class universities at most because huge efforts and time are needed to look into the answer sheets and fairly evaluate it.
Usually, there are no official 'Nonsul' classes in regular schools so many students depend on the private academies. As a result of it, sometimes does it happen that some students repeat the standardized written answer sheets and fail to pass the exam.
On reflection, some teachers who work for the public sector gathered to solve the problem but they only succeed in making some reading article list - not writing or interaction skills - for the Nonsul class because of much difficulties to agree with each other on 'what is the Nonsul and how to teach it'.
On the other hand, some authorities of university admission councils excuse that the Nonsul is the result of searching for the alternative exam format which could satisfy the direct demands of the education administration of the Government - they insist that it is for the chance of education which must be provided equally and diversely as public goods.
