[edit] Kim Peyton
Craig, it's a pleasure to have an editor who, even when writing an article to which they have a personal connection, is willing to work with others to create what is a good article that is getting better. You'd be amazed at how many other people get very possessive about "their" articles.
A quick tip, be sure to read the copyright rules, especially the part about images, before posting any photos or SI covers.
From reading your user page, it appears that you are no longer in Oregon, but I hope you will consider writing other articles for the Oregon project from your areas of interest and knowledge (know any more famous swimmers? See Oregon Sports Hall of Fame for a few famous missing swimmers), and even consider joining it. --Esprqii (talk) 19:13, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

- Thanks for the tip Esprqii. I will have to wait until the summer when my aunt will be back in Oregon. They winter over in Arizona. All of her archives on Kim are up in Oregon. Once I have the actual acticles and details, I will contact any copyright holder and get permission first before posting. She also has many personal photos of Kim that I could scan and put up as GFDL since she will release them to me. Again, thanks for the invite. I miss Oregon and love to see that the WikiProject Oregon is going strong. I hope to retire back to Oregon. C. Williams (talk) 22:53, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Oregon GA COTW
Howdy to WikiProject Oregon members, time for another edition of the Collaboration of the Week. As you may have already noticed, our flagship article Oregon is up for the third time as we make a push to get WP:GA status before going for WP:FA. Since this will take some time to get where it needs to be, this will be the COTW for more than just a week. Also, so we hopefully don’t trip over ourselves, try to coordinate on the article’s talk page. Once again, to opt out or suggest future collaborative efforts, click here.
On another note, just a general good job/pat on the back to the project for a great 2007, the first full year of the project. We had 83 DYKs about Oregon, improved one article to FA, and went from around 4 GAs to 17 GAs. Plus numerous new articles, improvements to existing, the introduction of the COTW, and the introduction of article assessment at the project. Again, great job and here’s to a new year. Aboutmovies (talk) 17:25, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Clown COTW
Greetings once again to members of the best encyclopedia online about Oregon (aka WP:ORE)! Last week we improved Neil Goldschmidt to close to GA level, and moved the Wells Fargo Center from Stub to Start for the Collaboration of the Week. This week we’re clowning around with some bozo from Oregon, Pinto Colvig, and then in an attempt to garner another DYK, the rather stubby Cooper Spur. As always, any contribution is appreciated, and to opt out of these messages visit here.
As we have quite a few new members over the last six months, I’ll make another pitch for our various subprojects. Listed here, you will find a variety of groups focused on specific areas of Oregon from transportation to culture. Not only can you sign up and coordinate work there, but each often has useful sources and templates related to that topic. No pressure, just an introduction to those new to the project. Adios. [edit] Expand flags
Hi. I see that you slapped an "expand" flag on Tadasuke Akiyama and Taiji Arita. Both, of course, are crappy bot-generated substubs. They and hundreds more like them are listed here (look for any item marked "BGSS").
This matter has already been brought up here in WP History of photography and also somewhere I can't immediately locate at WikiProject Japan, and perhaps other places too.
As far as I can see, the population of en:WP editors who are inclined to contribute to articles on twentieth-century Japanese photographers who neither happen to be (justifiably or otherwise) feted in the west nor specialize in pornography can be counted on the thumb of one hand. Viz myself. (Though much more interested in nineteenth-century photographers, Pinkville sometimes pitches in too.) Now, I know very well that the articles on Akiyama, Arita and hundreds of others need expansion. Sticking a template on one of these articles that says it needs expansion is, I think, unlikely to achieve anything. I can't fault you for doing it, but I do think that if you continue you'll just be wasting your time.
Meanwhile, I'm slowly expanding the bloody things. Katsuji Fukuda is a recent example.
Probably no need to reply, but if you'd like to reply, please do so here. Thanks. -- Hoary (talk) 15:49, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
-
- Thanks for the information. Sounds like you are aware of the situation and it is just taking a bit of time to slap the expand on it. No problem. Again, thanks for letting me know what the issue is. That helps me a lot. C. Williams (talk) 16:13, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
I'm vividly, painfully aware of the situation, I can tell you. Meanwhile, how about this? |priority=low |needs-photo=yes. Sorry if I seem impertinent, but I wonder how you know about the significance of this news photographer, whose photos of the Vietnam war shocked and disgusted the Japanese public, and who has won a number of highly coveted prizes for his work. (His article at Japanese Wikipedia is modest, but then war photography isn't the kind of thing that much interests your average ja:WP contributor.) Instead, how about rating Japanese photographers who actually have articles that are informative? The terse comment "OK" is given out very freely within this list (it just means "not utterly crappy"), but still it gives you a sporting chance of landing on a decent article. Just avoid the rubbish marked "BGSS". All the best! -- Hoary (talk) 12:32, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
PS Hang on ... I read here: [The criteria used for rating article priority] attempt to gauge the probability of the average reader of Wikipedia needing to look up the topic (and thus the immediate need to have a suitably well-written article on it). Then that's simple. Now that the Japanese cameraman shot by the dimwitted Burmese military has had his fifteen minutes, we're left with a grand total of one Japanese photographer who "Had some impact outside their country of origin": Nobuyoshi Araki in your project's terms. The others may be important (indeed, I'd say that several are way more important than Araki), but "the probability of the average reader of Wikipedia needing to look up" any of them is infinitesimal when one considers the degree of fascination of such worthies as Paris Hilton. So some bot can mark the whole lot of them "Low". -- Hoary (talk) 13:09, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
-
- Hoary, I tend to agree with you. I wish there was some rating below class=stub and below importance=low. I have been reviewing now hundreds of biographies out of the 77,000 unassessed backlog. I am new to the project, but have been learning lots about WikiBio's that have been created here. Generally, I rank everything importance=low unless they are a major figure. Out of the 200 some that I have rated now, I think I have run across less than 10 that I have rated as Mid. As to the stub class, I have found many one liners that should be pre-stub class or after-thought class instead of stub. But my belief is that this is an electronic world that we live in and anyone that is here should be left. I have run across only 1 or 2 that I have questioned their notability and have tagged them accordingly. Most of the articles that I am reviewing out of the unassessed list have already been here for >1 year and thus have already gotten past the editors that monitor new articles. Many that I have seen have been tagged for deletion due to notability and have been retained after a discussion. I am just the friendly reviewer who is going through and glancing at articles for WP:BIO and setting the appropriate flags. If they do not have a photo of the individual, then they get a |needs-photo=yes tag. Nothing more. I am staying neutral about the content. Thanks for your comments. I find them very helpful to understand other editors here as to what their views are. C. Williams (talk) 14:58, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
-
-
- PS: On a side note, I have actually met Paris Hilton and agree that a non-historian and/or just general user of Wiki might look her up. Her importance is now high because of just that. I have been going through unassessed so never reviewed that. Nice B grade article on her. C. Williams (talk) 15:11, 24 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Our weekly COTW message from WPOR
Welcome to another wonderful world of WP:ORE COTW. Thanks again to those who lent a hand improving Pinto Colvig and Cooper Spur ski area this past week or so. This week we return to the High importance Stubs, with the mighty Seal of Oregon and former governor and legal superstar Sylvester Pennoyer. To opt out of these messages, or suggest an article, swing by here. Or to stop receiving any WPORE messages just remove your name from the list of members at WP:ORE. Auf Wiedersehen. [edit] Old Buildings and Pictures
Greetings from WP:WikiProject Oregon. Blah blah blah. This week we have our semi-annual Picture Drive and a article creation drive for the NRHP List. For the picture drive, go take a picture, or find a free use one (lots of links to gov sites above) and upload it Wikipedia. For the National Register of Historic Places, find a red link on the main Oregon list or one of the county lists at start a new article. If its more than just a stub, don’t forget to nominate it for a DYK! Once again, to opt out or suggest future collaborative efforts, click here. Aboutmovies (talk) 20:04, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] March 14 OR COTW
Hello again or welcome if you are new to WP:WikiProject Oregon! Last week we did a picture drive and a NRHP creation drive. It’s hard to track the picture results, but I know I saw quite a few pictures added, so great job. With NRHP we added 7 that I saw: Mitchell Recreation Area, Salem First United Methodist Church, Portland City Hall, Crater Lake Lodge, Central Library (Portland, Oregon), Watchman Lookout Station, and Alvin T. Smith House; with most now nominated for DYK’s! So great work everybody.
This week, its back to stubs with one of the largest newspapers in the state, The Register-Guard, and a request with Oregon Coast. Feel free to help with either one, and the paper article is so short a DYK should be pretty easy to get (just need 5X expansion). As always, to opt out, opt in, or suggest future collaborative efforts, click here. Aboutmovies (talk) 00:02, 15 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Could you please explain more fully?
Could you please explain more fully the placement of this {{Blpdispute}} tag? Geo Swan (talk) 01:26, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

- I have explained on the talk page of Abdul_Bin_Mohammed_Bin_Abess_Ourgy that I am not sure why I tagged a {{Blpdispute}} tag on that article. I have since removed it after a 2nd review of the article for assessment by the WP:BIO group. C. Williams (talk) 03:57, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Vera Katz and History
Howdy folks, its time for another installment of WikiProject Oregon’s Collaboration of the Week! Last week we made some improvements to the Oregon Coast and brought The Register-Guard up to B class while garnering a DYK! Great job to those who lent a hand. This week we finish up the High priority Stubs with former mayor and Speaker of the House, Vera Katz, which is pretty much a Start class now and could easily get to B class. We also have History of Oregon by request. Help out if you can, where you can. As always, to opt out, opt in, or suggest future collaborative efforts, click here. [edit] Elected Oregon
Hello fellow WikiProject Oregon folks and entities. Thanks to those who helped out with improving Vera Katz and History of Oregon during the last Collaboration of the Week! As you may have noticed, we have changed the banners a bit, but not our dedication to everything Oregon! This week, in honor of the political process, we have: Current Oregon Senate members & Current Oregon House members. Hopefully by November we can have an article on every current member of the Oregon Legislature. So feel free to turn a red link blue or expand an existing article. Since it is an election year, there should be plenty of newspaper stories. Plus, the state archives has this site that allows you to go back and see when they started serving and district info, plus at a minimum show they were a state legislator from a WP:RS. And per WP:BIO, all state legislator's are notable so no need to worry about AFD. As always, to opt out, opt in, or suggest future collaborative efforts, click here. [edit] Maressa Orzack
Thankyou for your recent edits. Unfortunately they were on an old sandbox version of the article at User:Gazimoff/Maressa Orzack. I've since moved the article over to Maressa Orzack in the mainspace, which I'm currently developing. I should really tag the old ones for speedy deletion as they are old sandboxes that are now surplus.
Having said that, thankyou for your interest in the article and for taking the time to edit it, it's much appreciated. Many thanks! Gazimoff (talk) 07:09, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Juxtaposition COTW
Howdy Ho WikiProject Oregon! Time for another installment of Collaboration of the Week. The last few weeks we’ve knocked out quite a few articles of our current state legislators, and even a few former ones too. Great job to all those who helped make it happen. On a related note, we have had several DYKs from this and now have 53 DYKs so far this year (not counting multiples), less than four full months into the year. Last year we had a total of 83 DYKs for the entire year, and 7 combined for 2006 & 2005. So we are well on our way to another record year. Each time an article makes it to the main page as a DYK it will typically get an extra 1000 hits, which is usually far more than the typical 100 hits per month most minor articles receive. With that said, this week we have two requests, Portland Lumberjax and Silicon Forest. As always, to opt out, opt in, or suggest future collaborative efforts, click here. [edit] Cinco de COTW
Greetings once again from the Collaboration of the Week at WikiProject Oregon. Thank you to those who helped out with the last set of articles. This week we have the lone Stub class article left in the Top importance classification, Flag of Oregon, and by request, Detroit Lake. Help where you can, if you can. [edit] Monobook.js on unassessed bios list
Yikes -- Sorry about that. My monobook.js has a script with shortcuts to tag articles for a few manjor WikiProjects, and apparently the <nowiki> tags vanished the last time I edited it. Seems to be fixed now. --Avocado (talk) 00:31, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Bert E. Haney
READ the articles before assessing, or maybe, just maybe, stick with the grade given by people who have been associated with WPOR for a lot longer than you, and by the way, wrote the assessment criteria for the importance classification. Notice where it is FDR doing the nominating (i.e. not a state judge). HE WAS A FEDERAL JUDGE. OSC judges would prefer to be elevated to the Fed. Dist. court in Portland, as many have (none the other way). Fed. district court judges want to be elevated to the Federal Circuit Courts (where Haney went) or even better SCOTUS. Aboutmovies (talk) 08:13, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
-
- Must have caught you on a bad day. Sorry about this misunderstanding. I have learned some valuable information about the importance scale and honestly thank you for your assistance. I see your point that a Federal Judge from Oregon would be in that 30% mid level and thus more significant than a local judge. Thanks for the help in understanding your importance scale. C. Williams (talk) 08:44, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Zzzz Oregon COTW
Howdy ya’ll, time for another Collaboration of the Week from WikiProject Oregon. Last week we improved Flag of Oregon & Detroit Lake, enough I think to move them to Start class, so great job everyone! This week, we have another request in Oregon Ballot Measure 47 and a randomly selected two sentence stub that should be easy to expand enough for a DYK in Wallowa-Whitman National Forest. To opt out of these messages, leave your name here, or click here to make a suggestion. Aboutmovies (talk) 18:55, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] QWERTY: Oregon COTW
Hello WikiProject Oregon participants, time for another edition of Collaboration of the Week. Last week we made some great improvements to Wallowa-Whitman National Forest and Oregon Ballot Measure 47 (1996), with a DYK for the forest. Great job everyone! This week we have another stub, George Lemuel Woods, one of only two governor stubs left, and should be an easy job getting it to Start class. Then, in honor of the long weekend, we have our second State Park Article Creation Drive. Lots of red links to turn blue, lots of opportunities for DYKs. Help if you can, even if it is only adding pictures of state parks. To opt out of these messages, leave your name here, or click here to make a suggestion. May the The Schwartz be with you. [edit] X marks the WPOR COTW spot
Guten Tag WikiProject Oregon team members! Great job last week with the Collaboration of the Week, we improved George Lemuel Woods and added eleven new state park articles. This past week we also surpassed the 6000 article mark as a project. The weather may suck, but WPORE is not. For this week we have by request Music of Oregon and Phil Knight. Both need some help, and with Knight we might be able to improve it to GA standards. Once again, to opt out of these messages, leave your name here, or click here to make a suggestion. [edit] A is for Apple at COTW
Hello again to those of the WikiProject we call Oregon. Time for another edition of Collaboration of the Week. Last week there was some good improvements to Music of Oregon and Phil Knight, great job everyone. This week, by request is the Applegate Trail, which is short enough to easily conjure up a DYK. Then, I’m trying something a little different, with the Portland State stuff. We included the two high profile schools during Civil War week last year, so now its time for the younger sibling that gets no respect to get some attention. After all, it is the largest college in the state. Feel free to help with whatever aspects you like, though to help with some ideas I added some to the article talk page. Click here to opt out of these messages, or click here to make a suggestion for a future COTW. Nana na na, hey hey hey, goouud byeeee. Aboutmovies (talk) 08:12, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
