Nizas, Hérault

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Nizas is a village of 554 people in the south of France in the Hérault department, region of Languedoc near the main town of Pezenas.

[edit] History

The origins of Nizas are certainly early Roman, although there are remains from Greek amphora manufacturing processes in neighbouring villages and there is evidence of Roman foundations from the 1st century under the medieval church in the center of the village.

[edit] Sights

The present village dates from the 10th century with extensive building in the 12th and 13 centuries giving the characteristic shape of a circulard. This is tight spiral configuration with the outer buildings having thick (up to 3 meters in places) stone walls as a defence.
