Hi Mark: My understanding is that there is no remaining structure from the original castle. See the link I've added to the 1887 report, which shows no tower on the east side. Please clarify. cheers Nesbit 18:19, 16 June 2006 (UTC)

Hi - evidence for the tower on the east side is from two sources: (1) architect who carried out the restoration work for the current owner and examined the fabric in detail and (2) the account in Pevsner's Borders (2006, p. 598) which states that "The walls of the E portion are thicker than the remainder...suggesting that part of the earlier castle is incorporated at this end of the house".

I have removed the reference to Nisbet Castle - as far as I understand there was no such place. There were fortified structures at both East Nisbet (shown as castle on Blaeu map) and West Nisbet (shown as house on map, referred to as a castle in Pevsner), but these have always been known as East Nisbet and West Nisbet, neither as Nisbet Castle. There is published architectural evidence, in Pevsner, that Nisbet House incorporates a former pele tower on the same site, but no evidence that stone from East Nisbet was used in its construction.Mark Nesbitt (talk) 21:07, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
