Unofficially, this film is no doubt inspired by Cornell Woolrich's 1942 short story "It Had To Be Murder"; later film adapted as "Rear Window" (1954, remade in 1998), and directed by Alfred Hitchcock. Also, the recent 2007 film "Disturbia," starring Shia LaBeouf, is also about the possibility of a next-door murderer and the neighbor that suspects the homicide.
