I'm currently adding English language versions of the images, and updating the text accordingly. I accidentally uploaded the wrong image for the last part (d'oh!!!), so I'm waiting for an admin to delete it so I can fix. If I missed anything in the text, fix it or let me know. Hi! I've been using, and really liking, Wikipedia Cleaner. One thing I like is that by displaying all the dab links in a page, it encourages me to fix as many of them as I can, so I feel I'm doing more to help Wikipedia.

One thing Wikipedia Cleaner does that bugs me is this: when I correct, for example, [[subway]] to [[Subway (rail)|subway]] by selecting "Link to" and the appropriate target ("Subway (rail)") in the application, what I get is just [[Subway (rail)|]], and I have to add the piped text back in myself. This seems to happen consistently when I pick a dab target that ends with a parenthesized element (as many dab targets do, of course). Could this be fixed? Thanks. Tkynerd 02:16, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

Hi. This is not a bug, Wikipedia automatically expands [[Subway (rail)|]] to [[Subway (rail)|Subway]] when you preview or commit the page. You can try on a preview and you will see that it works ;) .
BTW, in the Options window, you can uncheck Use short notation [[Xxxxx (yyy)|]] if you prefer Wikipedia Cleaner to use the longer notation. I added this option because several people had the same reaction as you do, believing it was a bug (apparently, I did something wrong because I thought the default value was not to use the short notation). --NicoV 20:12, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

Trying to run it via JNLP results in this:
"An error occurred while launching/running the application.
"Title: Wikipedia Cleaner
"Vendor: User:NicoV
"Category: Launch File Error
"Unsupported JNLP version in launch file: 1.5+. Only version 1.0 is supported with this version. Please contact the application vendor to report this problem."
I tried installing it manually, but then it hangs on "Loading MediaWiki API..." (or whatever that exactly is) after I log in, and I'm never able to do anything. Thanks for your attention. --Tkynerd 00:51, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

I am no Mac expert at all, so my question may be completely stupid ;) Are you sure your version of Java is at least 1.5 ? In this page, there are reports of similar problem for an other application. It's old reports but they give some advices for solving the problem. Is there a way for you to run the application once you have manually installed it, but with a console displaying the textual output of Wikipedia Cleaner ? Manual installation requires to download all the jar files in http://test04145.mutu.sivit.org/WikipediaCleaner/ and be sure they are in your classpath (I don't know how on Mac). --NicoV 22:00, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

I also don't know how to modify my classpath under OS X. I can try running it in a terminal, if you tell me which .jar file I should be running. PS I downloaded the most recent version of Apple's developer tools and installed that package, so I think I should be using the most recent available version of Java. From a terminal, running Java with the -version flag should display its version. The .jar to run is WikipediaCleaner.jar (on Windows, the command is java -jar WikipediaCleaner.jar). --NicoV 06:37, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
java -version reports: java version "1.5.0_07". java -jar WikipediaCleaner.jar (in the directory where the .jar file is located) gives this error: Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: WikipediaCleaner. Thanks. --Tkynerd 23:39, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

I am lost with this problem. The JNLP error means that your Java Web Start is older than 1.5. I have created a second JNLP file that may run for you (but not sure at all): http://test04145.mutu.sivit.org/WikipediaCleaner/WikipediaCleaner2.jnlp . It doesn't seem to work on OSI model, TCP/IP model or Comparison of VoIP software. Links such as HTTP and HDLC seem to confuse it. Phatom87 (talk • contribs) 18:31, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] dab links in hatnotes

Hallo, I presume that Wikipedia Cleaner ignores, or advises its users to ignore, links to dab pages from well-formatted hatnotes (such as {{otheruses}}). Could I suggest that when users come across a link to a dab page from an informal hatnote, rather than just tag it with "Page d" they restructure it into a standard hatnote? Fulneck Moravian Settlement had a free text hatnote which was tagged, but is more appropriately (to my mind) replaced by using {{redirect}}. See this diff. PamD (talk) 12:14, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

Hi, Wiki Cleaner knows that some templates create normal links to dab pages. Since I am working on the French wikipedia, I am not sure that the list of templates is correct for the English wikipedia.
