[edit] Welcome!
I hope you like this place — I sure do — and want to stay. Before getting too in-depth, you may want to read about the five pillars of Wikipedia. If you need help on how to title new articles check out the naming conventions, and for help on formatting the pages visit the manual of style. If you need help look at Wikipedia:Help and the FAQ , plus if you can't find your answer there, check the Village Pump (for Wikipedia related questions) or the Reference Desk (for general questions)! There's still more help at the Tutorial and Policy Library. Plus, don't forget to visit the Community Portal. And if you have any more questions after that, feel free to post them on my user talk page.
[edit] Additional tips
Here's some extra tips to help you get around in the 'pedia!
- If you want to play around with your new Wiki skills the Sandbox is for you.
- You can sign your name using three tildes (~). If you use four, you can add a datestamp too.
- You may want to add yourself to the new user log.
- If you ever think a page or image should be deleted, please list it at the votes for deletion page. There is also a votes for undeletion page if you want to retrieve something that you think should not have been deleted.
- If you're still entirely confused, or would like to get a better grasp of your wikipedia skills, and you have an IRC client (or don't mind getting one), check out the Bootcamp. It's not what it sounds like, but it is fun and can help you with your editing skills.
- If you're bored and want to find something to do, try the Random page button in the sidebar, or check out the Open Task message in the Community Portal.

[edit] Africa topics
Hey Nick.annejohn, I just saw your creation of Mokolo and I thought I'd add a greeting as well. As you may have noticed, Wikipedia is always in need of more Africa editors. If this is a continued area of interest for you, here's some other links that you may want to check out:
- Wikipedia:WikiProject Countering systemic bias open tasks
- Portal:Africa
- Wikipedia:List of missing Africa topics
- Wikipedia:African Collaboration of the Fortnight
Good luck, and happy editing! If you ever have any questions, feel free to leave a note on my talk page. --Dvyost 18:00, 27 October 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Cameroonian articles
Hi, Nick! (Anne? John?) :)
A fellow Africa-article contributor gave me a heads up that you had been working on Cameroon-related stuff, so I thought I'd drop by and say hello! I lived in Cameroon for two years with Peace Corps. I was in Abong-Mbang, East Province teaching English. What'd you do over there? I'm guessing you were in the Northwest somewhere? I trained in Bandjoun, West Province, and I popped over to Bamenda and Bafut a couple of times, but it's nice to see someone on the wiki who seems to have more in-depth experience in Anglophone territory. Please let me know if you have any questions by leaving me a message on my talk page.
By the way, you might stop by and say hello to Pradiptaray. He's a new arrival, too, also working primarily on articles related to Northwest Cameroon. BrianSmithson 14:23, 29 October 2005 (UTC)
- hi,
Got the message u left on my talk page. I'm fairly new to wikipedia, but I'm quite interested in adding to Africa related articles. Are there any topics that should be prioritized?
My first-hand experience is 7 years of growing up in the North-West Province (as well as a couple in the Far North) My parents were the managers of the Kilum-Ijim Forest project and subsequently the Bamenda Highlands project. I'll have tonnes of pictures for many articles once i recover my old hard drive.

- Hey, Nick. I pasted your response here so we can keep the conversation all in one place. (You'll notice that a lot of people here do talking between two talk pages, but that's always driven me nuts having to pop back and forth between pages like that.)
- As for what to prioritize, I'd definitely love to see those photos uploaded! Let me direct you to Wikimedia Commons before you do that, though. The purpose of Commons is so that whatever gets uploaded there will be available to Wikipedias in any language, plus sister projects like Wiktionary. If you upload straight to the English Wikipedia, the stuff's avialable, but only here. Another caveat is that if the pictures aren't all yours (if, say, your parents took them), be sure to ask before you upload. The GFDL license means that others will be able to use the pics for personal websites and whatnot. I saw a chimpanzee picture I uploaded used on a news website once! I took it as either a compliment or an indication of the cheapness of the news source. :)
- As for articles, the sad truth is that the whole country of Cameroon has very little coverage here. I'd just stick to what you know or what interests you. Just remember: cite your sources, and don't present any original research. What they mean by "original research" is first-hand observations that you haven't seen backed up in a printed source. So, for example, I can't write an article that asserts "Yaoundé is very dangerous" just because I got pickpocketed there a few times. I've got to find someone who's backed up that statement in writing, and I have to cite that source in the article.
- I'm glad you're here! Let me know if you need anything else. —BrianSmithson 01:04, 30 October 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Wikimedia Canada
Hi there! I'd like to invite you to explore Wikimedia Canada, and create a list of people interested in forming a local chapter for our nation. A local chapter will help promote and improve the organization, within our great nation. We'd also like to encourage everyone to suggest projects for our national chapter to participate in. Hope to see you there!--DarkEvil 17:11, 20 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Decimal separator
Hi Nick.annejohn, I was reading the article Decimal separator and noticed some countries with sizeable populations not listed in the sections ¨Dot countries¨ and ¨Comma countries¨ including Cameroon. So I thought I´d look up an Cameroonian Wikipedian and suggest that you add Cameroon to which-ever category it belongs. Thanks, AussieDingo83 10:58, 3 May 2006 (UTC)
- done ;) cameroon uses the comma since its heavily influenced by france
[edit] Kom
Hi Nick, I just made some changes on the Kom-Article you started. I also wrote something on the discussion page there. Kind regards Nannus 22:59, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
