Did he own DIRECTV or did he just buy like one of there smaller stores?

I read in this article about Nick Hexum's involvement in (liberal) politics through Liberal Hexum. I have also read his website about him supporting liberal politicians such as John Kerry and the like.So apparently, he appears to be a supporter of the U.S Democratic Party, or so it appears to be that way.
