Nicholas de Lamotte

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Nicholas de Lamotte (1755-1831), originally Antoine-Nicolas de la Motte (de Lamotte), was an 18th century Frenchman known for his part as a conman in the affair of the diamond necklace and as the husband of Jeanne de Valois-Saint-Remy. While he claimed to be a nobleman and gave himself the title of Comte (Count), his family's claim to nobility is dubious.
