Nicholas O'Shea

Nicholas O’Shea was an Irish sportsperson. He played hurling with his local club Kickham’s and with the Dublin inter-county team in the 1880s.

Nicholas O’Shea, although captain of the Dublin hurling team, was not born in Dublin. In the city he joined the newly-formed Kickham’s club, with whom he won a county title with in 1889. This allowed O’Shea to captain the inter-county team in the upcoming championship. He subsequently won a Leinster title after the team got a walkover from Laois in the provincial final. O’Shea later collected a coveted All-Ireland title, following ‘the Dubs’ victory over Clare in the All-Ireland final. Little is known about O’Shea’s life, and it is assumed that he emigrated shortly after this victory.
