Niall Shanks

Niall Shanks (b. January 18th.1959), a native of England, earned his Ph.D. at the University of Alberta, Canada. He is currently Curtis D. Gridley Professor in the History and Philosophy of Science at Wichita State University.
Niall Shanks is currently President(2008-9) of the Southwest and Rocky Mountain Division of the American Association for the Advancement of Science; Vice-president of Americans for Medical Advancement; and an honorary Board Member of Internet Infidels. In 1993 he served as President of the Tennessee Philosophical Association.
Niall Shanks' early research interests were focused on issues in the philosophical foundations of quantum mechanics. The current focus of his research is on the implications of evolutionary biology for biomedical research. Shanks is also interested in the history of medicine and the role played by medicine in the scientific revolutions of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.
Niall Shanks is a well known lover of all things Scottish, especially bagpipe music.

In addition, Shanks has written over fifty scholarly articles; and has edited two anthologies on theoretical issues in the sciences (Idealization in Contemporary Physics Rodopi: Amsterdam, 1998; and (with Robert Gardner) Logic, Probability, and Science Rodopi: Amsterdam, 2000). Shanks is also the author of numerous book reviews.
