From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Niagara-Wheatfield Central School District is a school district located in Sanborn, New York, about 30 miles from Niagara Falls, New York. The school district is comprised of six schools: Niagara-Wheatfield Senior High School, Edward Town Middle School, Errick Road Elementary School, Tuscarora Indian Nation School, and West Street School. Niagara Wheatfield CSD Students from the town of Niagara and the town of Wheatfield come together in this facility to learn about various academic, professional and athletic fields of study. The original high school was built on the Haseley family farmland in 1958. The school is located near the German hamlet of "Walmore," [1] an original German-Lutheran settlement started in the 1880s. Many students living in the town of Wheatfield are decendents of the original German settler familieis who settled in the hamlets of Johnsberg, Bergholtz and Walmore. [2]. There are also many Native Americans from the Tuscarora Nation who attend the school, as well as several Italian-Americans and students of many other origins. Despite issues with job loss in the manufacturing industry due to globalization and the transition of America into a service economy, the Town of Wheatfield is one of the fastest-growing towns in Niagara County.

[edit] Niagara Wheatfield Today

In 2008, Niagara-Wheatfield celebrated its "golden anniversary" of 50 years. The school is kicking off the celebration with a 1950's-style sock hop and will invite all NW alumni who have graduated from the school since its opening 50 years ago.[1]
