Ni hao
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ni hao (你好) is the Mandarin Chinese word for 'hello'. It literally translates to 'you good' but is not a question unless the 'question word' ma is added to the end to form Ni hao ma? (how are you?).
People can respond to somebody who has said 'ni hao ma?' to them by saying "Wo hen hao. Xie xie. Ni ne (I'm great. Thank you! And you?). This answer is promptly responded "Wo ye hen hao. Xie xie. (I'm great too. Thanks!)
