NFTA 25 Delaware Bus
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The second bus route to operate in the City of Buffalo, New York, the Route 25 Delaware line started as Route A, which operated from Downtown Buffalo to Delaware and Kenwood in the Village of Kenmore.
Double-decker buses were used nearly exclusively on this route from its inception on November 2, 1924, until 1927, when replaced with single-deck coaches.
Over the course of the next 75 years, the 25 Delaware bus expanded considerably, maintaining its "trunk" service between Downtown Buffalo and as far as Delaware and Sheridan Drive on most trips.
Some variations included:
- The Brighton branch (25B): towards Brighton and Eggert, operating over Delaware, Sheridan and Parker.
- The Desmond (Riverview) branch (25J): operated from Delaware and Sheridan over Delaware to Sheridan and Riverview, approximately 1 mile west of Military Road. This branch normally operated as a shuttle from Delaware Avenue, with a couple trips during the peak periods operating to Downtown Buffalo.
- The Ensminger branch (25C): towards Ensminger and Sheridan-Parkside, operating over Delaware, Sheridan and Sheridan-Parkside.
- The North Tonawanda branch(es):
The Meadow Drive branch continued from the Tonawanda branch over Goundry, Payne, Meadow, Nash and Ruie to Ward Road, where it operated to either Summit Park Mall(25M), Niagara Falls Boulevard and Ward (25D-current), or the Delmar Loop at Oliver and Ward.
The Robinson branch (25R - c. 1993)
The Wurlitzer branch continued from the Tonawanda branch over
- The Orchard branch (25D, then 25B): extension of the trunk service to Delaware and Orchard, a few blocks north of Delaware and Sheridan.
- The Tonawanda branch (25F, then 25C): extension of the trunk service to Main and Niagara in the City of Tonawanda, using Delaware Avenue, then looping over Broad, Seymour and Niagara Streets.
