"In 1971 the ALA decided to give the Newbery Honor citation to worthy runners-up for the Newbery Medal. Runners-up from prior years were retroactively named Newbery Honor books." - does this mean that the award is given to all runner-ups, unequivocally, or does this mean that the award is given only to the runner-ups that are deemed "worthy" of being cited further for special mention? --Confuzion 15:22, 5 Apr 2004 (UTC)

The latter. Runners-up are not to be confused with the shortlist for the prize. Since the conception of the Newbery medal, some books from the shortlist have always been singled out for extra recognition; before 1971, these books were called "runners-up", nowadays they are the Newbery honor books. --Woggly 17:14, 7 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Could the article please give more context at the start? I mean, when I read the first three sentences, I want to know what it is all about and I still don't understand it.Is it about athletics ("runners")? Andries 20:55, 16 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Better? I apologize, I somehow failed to notice the context was missing for people who reached the page on a random hit. --Woggly 04:48, 17 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Do you really think Ann M Martin deserves the honor?I've found her books inappropriate.

[edit] Suggestion

Peharps a section or some sort of indication for authors who have won multiple Newbery Honors would be appropriate? --Mistsrider (talk) 10:09, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
